
Dr. Dennis L. Rousseau Jr., MD/PhD, FACS, received his medical degree and a doctorate in Biochemistry from Vanderbilt University. He went on to complete his general surgery training at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and his surgical oncology fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he was recognized as the outstanding clinical fellow of his graduating class. He was a member of the faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio from 2003 – 2007, where he worked with Dr. Kahlenberg to develop the surgical oncology program.
In 2007, Dr. Rousseau was recruited by the Florida Hospital system in Orlando to serve as the Director of Surgical Oncology. In this role he chaired the system wide gastrointestinal cancer task force and developed a successful multidisciplinary GI cancer program. He also developed the database systems for breast and colorectal cancer to track outcomes for the entire hospital system, and served as a member of the clinical trials review committee to foster clinical research. During this time, Dr. Rousseau also assumed a national leadership position in the Society of Surgical Oncology, focused on the development of community surgical oncology programs. Dr. Rousseau has now returned to San Antonio to work with Dr. Kahlenberg to develop a program of excellence in Surgical Oncology at Surgical Oncology Associates of South Texas.
